I just realized that Tenzin kind of inherited the negative traits of both his parents. He got Aang’s avoidance and tendency to avoid confrontation unless absolutely necessary (pretty sure it was that aspect that made the breakup with Lin so awful—she was probably blindsided because he never talked about his issues), but he also got his mother’s stubbornness, short temper and I-know-what’s-best-for-everybody-else-ness.

It’s actually kind of fantastic and hilarious.

Of course, he also inherited/developed good traits, like wanting to stand up for what’s right and being willing to risk himself to save others, etc. He’s a loving family man who would probably like to spend more time goofing off with his adorable weirdo children than he actually gets to do, but has taken on so much responsibility (like both his parents did) and doesn’t really begrudge that he has to do that.

Both his parents were pretty spiritual (Katara interacted with at least one spirit—the Painted Lady), and yet he’s so stuck in his humanness he’s useless at spirit stuff. I really loved his season 2 arc (& 3), where he had to accept that he really wasn’t Aang and shouldn’t try to be, and when we saw him come to terms with the fact that both Jinora and Bumi are much more connected to the spirits that he will ever be.

Good character development there.

"Otaku is out like a light," Kai said. "Not even a herd of bison-elephants could wake him up," he laughed. "He probably thinks I’m still there." He followed the lines of her arrow tattoos on her arms…

"You’d be as pressured as your dad and grandfather was to repopulate the Air Nation," Kai joked. He started absentmindedly braiding her hair. "I never thought this would happen to me. Not the airbending thing, that’s impossible to imagine, really. But the family thing. I’ve never had one until I came to you guys, and…" he sighed. "I couldn’t ask for a better one. Even though your dad yells at me a lot, and doesn’t technically let us date…" he laughed. "But I love you too much to stay away." He drew random patterns on her bare, toned stomach.

Jinora chuckled, nodding against his chest. “Family’s like that. They’ll get on your nerves, annoy you, make you angry, make you angry, all of those things, but no matter what you love them. Like Ikki and I. We fight, we tease each other, but I’d do anything for her because she’s my sister, my family, and I love her.” She paused, hugging him tightly as much as she could in their position. “Just like I love you like that. I’ll always be there for you, and so will my family and all the other airbenders. We’re all family now.”

consider this:

your otp has been seeing each other for awhile and person a stays over at person b’s house a lot. and they always bring a bag of clothes for the next day until finally person a looks at them and says “middle drawer, it’s yours.”

Jinora's Corner
Hi, I'm Jinora! I live on Air Temple Island with my family, the Air Acolytes, and the new airbenders. I was recently anointed a master, and I am so thankful to be given my arrows. I want to help the world and the Avatar as much as I can, to make this a better place for everyone.
